Welcome to The Old Catholic Church of Great Britain
We know from history
that the Church founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ was
united for a thousand years.
Today, however, the
Catholic Church is comprised of five sister
congregations: Old Catholic, Roman Catholic, Anglican
Catholic / Episcopalian, Eastern Catholic (or
Eastern Orthodox)
and Oriental
(Coptic, Syrian, Nestorian)
These sister churches,
together relating to each other in love, hold that
through baptism, celebrated in our churches according to
the faith handed down to us from the Apostles, we are
each made members of the one Mystical Body of Christ.

"We
hold the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of man; we
know that we do serve Him best, when best we serve our
brother man."
Old Catholic Tradition
|
Our Ecumenical Nature
|
We uphold our
orthodox catholic tradition with respect to the following
principles:
-
The teachings and
person of Jesus Christ
-
The New Testament
-
The Nicene Creed
-
The Sacramental &
Liturgical tradition practiced
-
Apostolic
Tradition and Succession affirmed
Our Communion
unites authentic Catholic faith communities that
stretch around the
world. We
are a communion of communities which are ecumenical
and catholic in that we celebrate a
characteristically Orthodox Catholic faith tradition that is
not sectarian.
We share a common
theology and liturgical tradition with the Catholic
Church. Our deacons, priests and bishops participate
in the same historic apostolic succession as do the
Roman Catholic Church, the
Eastern
Orthodox
Churches
, and other
apostolic Churches. We share the same historical
developments as Western Christianity.
We trace our modern
roots to the emergence of the Old Catholic movement
which began in 1870 as a response to the first
Vatican Council’s pronouncement of Papal
Infallibility and the primacy of papal jurisdiction.
|
"By this all
will know that you are My disciples, if you
have love for one another."
John
13:35
As an ecumenical
community,
The Old Catholic
Church of Great Britain is in full Holy Communion with The
Free
Catholic Church of Europe.
We welcome the
prophetic work of fostering unity while celebrating
the various interdenominational faith traditions
among Christians in accord with Jesus' prayer ...THAT
WE ALL MAY BE ONE.
We recognise the
baptism and faith of all our Christian brothers and
sisters. By virtue of our common baptism, a real
global unity already exists in Christ's church.
All are invited
to join us and participate in the worship and
sacramental life of our ecumenical Catholic
communities.

For
the contemporary Catholic searching to maintain
his/her Faith but desiring to do so without
excessive institutionalism that often loses contact
with the individual; for those with an Orthodox Catholic
background who feel impeded from full participation
in the life and Sacraments of the Church; for the
many unchurched who desire the joy and peace of Our
Lord's Word and His Holy Sacraments, Old Catholic
communities provide a viable alternative and allow a
person to be a part of Christ's Church, and be at
peace with his/her conscience.
We recognise that
each baptized person is an equal member of the Old
Catholic Church. No bishop, priest, or deacon owns
the Church, the sacramental ministry, or the grace
of Christ. Therefore, lay people play an important
and prominent role in the governance of the Church.
All must respect, as well as actively seek to
discern, how the Holy Spirit is motivating the
faithful to act. In Catholic tradition this is
called ascertaining the “sensus fidelium” --- the
sense of the faithful.

A Prayer
The word of God call us out of darkness into the light of faith. With the confidence of God's children let us ask the Lord to hear our prayers and to bless this
website created in love for His honour and glory.
Amen.

Welcome
|
|
As
inheritors of Apostolic Succession from the Western Latin (Catholic)
Church, the
Ancient
Oriental
Churches
and the Eastern Byzantine (Orthodox) Churches, we possess a rich
theological heritage. We are a sacramental federation of churches,
embracing the fullness of Christianity as expressed within Catholic
understanding. |
Christ's Promise
|
|
Here's Jesus' promise to you!
"When you are sad…I will dry your tears. When you are scared…I will
comfort your fears…when you are worried…I will give you hope…And when
you are lost and cannot see the light…I shall be your beacon, shinning
ever so bright. This is my promise, I pledge till the end. 'Why?' you
may ask…because you are my friend." |
Are
You Free?
|
|
Those who are not satisfied in
God are not free, but slaves to the futility of seeking their
happiness in this world. But those who are satisfied in God are free
indeed. They are free to feed the hungry, care for the diseased,
comfort the abused, minister to the poor, treat the addicted, speak
hope to the despairing and serve on the most difficult mission fields. |
